BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water 5-Minute Showers
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

Five-minute showers don't lend themselves to meditation... ;)

    Community Research Restorative Justice
How can Restorative Justice help foster the well-being of both people and planet?

I researched JRJI (Jesuit Restorative Justice Initiative), which has the goal of restorative justice for inmates in our prison systems.  Many of the inmates have similar backgrounds to immigrants, who need asylum. These individuals are treated like property and not humans. If there was the opportunity to listen to their stories, with respect and empathy, then true justice could possibly happen.  With justice and respect, comes dignity, which is good for all people and our planet.

A loving-kindness meditation my friend Karen Quinn-Shea shared:

May I be free from suffering and the roots of all suffering
    May I be at peace
    May my heart remain open
May I awaken to the Light of my own true nature
    May I be healed
May I be a source of healing for all beings.

May you be free from suffering and the roots of all suffering
    May you be at peace
    May your heart remain open
May you awaken to the Light of my own true nature
    May you be healed
May you be a source of healing for all beings.

I am counting this action because I attended a meeting with the Community Development Committee with the local government. Although the meeting was supposed to include climate action planning, we never got the chance to talk aobut it, except for a shoreline plan so I didn't get to advocate for growing and eating local food for climate change mitigation.

For lunch today I had zucchini lazagna and a salad. All the veetables in the meal came from local farmers. Some days it is easier to eat local food than others, but I have been attempting to create my meals around foods I know I can get at the farmer's market.

nice, Suzanne! i grow many of my veggies and try to eat mostly from the garden. have recently stopped buying avocados and fruit that has to travel in planes to get here... we just found a local place for meat on Marrowstone: One Straw Ranch, for when we want some animal protein.

I have been very busy doing a lot of online work, so I have been making do with what i cold easily get my hands on. I went to the farmer's market last Saturday and bought a lot of vegetables and I've been eating those.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Advocate for More Food Options
What changes would help food insecure regions have access to local, seasonal foods? How can your choices contribute to these changes?

In my area, there is a lot of local food availabl, even beef, pork, eggs, and fish. It's all very expensive and the farms cannot directly accept food stamps, although you can get some food stamps tokens at the farmer's market. So, less expensive foods.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Locally-Sourced Meals
If you were to only eat what is in season locally from now on, what would be the most difficult food item for you to give up? Why?

I couldn't afford to eat only locally. I can get most of what I want, I just can't afford it.
