I committed to eating one meatless meal a day for the month. At first, I thought this was going to be really unpleasant, I expected the vegetarian options at the dining hall to be really bad. It turned out to be much easier than I expected. I had a lot of great meals along the way that I probably would have never eaten. I expect I'll continue to have the occasional vegetarian meal after October ends.
I use plastic plates, cups, and bowls in my dorm. Recently, I switched to a reusable water bottle that I bring to class with me, so I cut out plastic water bottle use. I can replace plastic plates, cups, and bowls, however with melamine plates, cups, and bowls. These are better for the environment, because they are reusable.
I noticed that I felt more productive when I implemented the challenge. I spent the time reading a book I just got, so it wasn't very difficult to complete this challenge because I am really enjoying the book so far
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Some steps I can take to reduce my electricity usage are turning off the lights and unplugging my electronics after I leave and not using my air conditioner and opening windows instead.
The exercise in which I acknowledge three things that I am thankful for daily really encourages me to appreciate the little things. This keeps me centered, as even on a bad day, it reminds me that there are good things that have happened, even if they are small.
