Susan's actions
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
Do at Home
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home
Do at Home
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home.
Water
Conserve Toilet Water
Do at Home
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Susan Norman 10/08/2021 3:59 AMMy largest single use is vegetable bags. I have begun using them for scraps and instead of using a zipper bag to season proteins/veggies. They are also great to protect items in shipping and box fillers.-
Fatema Adamji 10/21/2021 7:24 AMWhat are your thoughts on mesh bags for produce? -
Courtney Groszhans 10/08/2021 10:25 AMThank you for sharing your ideas! Those are smart ways to reuse vegetable bags from the grocery store.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Susan Norman 10/08/2021 3:56 AMKeeping reusable bags in my car for quick trips into stores. If I forget, then I place as many items in a shopping cart, check out without a bag and then simply place into the bag at my car.-
Fatema Adamji 10/21/2021 7:24 AMGreat workaround!
