The challenge is going pretty good for me.  I have learned so much and things I am going to definitely implement in my everyday routine.

Learning about sustainability is one of the best things I could've done.  It's so many layers to it. I have enjoyed explaining it to my family, friends and coworkers.  I am very glad I chose to do the ECO challenge.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
How does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?

I never heard of food sovereignty until now entering the ECO Challenge.  To my understanding from the documentaries I watched, food sovereignty encompasses the growing and distribution of food.  It’s about the people who help grow the food,  such as the farmers and workers.  Food sovereignty is about culture, diversity and the environment. It ensures that we have enough food to meet the needs of the people.  I learned in my documentaries that we need our land to grow our food/crops.  It definitely gets deeper than I would’ve thought.  By industrializing food systems, it has put us in kind of a crisis.  It has impacted pricing, poverty climate change and biodiversity loss.  The world wants everything fast and in mass production.  However, it is harming our natural resources

Action Track: Healing and Renewal Nurture Self-Compassion
How can nurturing your Self-Compassion also nurture healthier relationships with others and the environment?

Nurturing your self compassion helps to be more empathetic towards others.  I feel it helps for you to understand and be more compassionate towards others and their feelings.

Action Track: Healing and Renewal Joyful Movement
What's your favorite activity(ies) in which you experience joy while being active and moving?

I experience joy when I am dancing and/or working out.  The movement gets my blood flowing and I feel better physically.  Any physical activity is enjoyable to me.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Jaquisha Murphy's avatar
    Jaquisha Murphy 10/08/2021 7:00 AM
I think eating more meat affects the planet and our body.  Animals are a natural resource themselves and we are killing them off.  The planet needs all its creatures to be how it should be.  I think the reason richer countries eat more is because they can afford more.  In other countries they are unable to forward all the products etc and process that comes with meat.  Therefore, they are forced to eat more vegetables and fruits because they can grow them.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Choose Organic Ingredients
Many people say that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” How would you respond to that statement?

    Jaquisha Murphy's avatar
    Jaquisha Murphy 10/08/2021 6:57 AM
Actually I think anything is possible.  If you can feed yourself with organic food you can feed others just the same.  I love organic food.  I had organic vegetables and fruit this week.  They actually taste better to me.  My mother has always purchased organic food. Therefore, I grew up eating that way.  Although everything wasn't organic, most of it was.

Why can't we feed the world with organic food? We can get rid of all of the bad pesticides and grow our food more naturally!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing and Renewal Practice Gratitude for Earth
Kathleen Dean Moore says that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation. Do you agree? How can we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals, and as a society?

I walked to the store yesterday instead of driving.  It was very refreshing and although a little wet, the air was nice.  It gave me a sense of serenity while feeling the breath of nature.  It was also nice looking at the leaves.
