COCC Feed

BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Transportation Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

I would like to be outside of my car more! I have to carry a lot of tools for jobs, and am considering an electric cargo bike for my commute.

During more than a year of remote work, I adapted to print almost nothing for work - everything was digital. Now that we're back in the office, how can we standardize that practice? From meeting agendas to classroom handouts - what if we created a culture where we access documents digitally and avoid printing (almost) anything at all?

Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community Support Businesses Owned by People of Color
A recent Keen Independent Research Foundation study found that Minority Businesses Enterprises (MBEs) are more likely to have difficulties in receiving loans or city contracts. In what ways can you work to address systemic racism like that demonstrated in this study?

Once upon a time, I'd mindlessly order from Amazon if I needed something. Now I shop locally as much as possible, and prioritize my support for Black and minority-owned businesses. In addition to searching online, talking with neighbors and colleagues is a great way to both give and receive recommendations for places to support. Beyond my individual spending decisions, I can educate others about the importance of support for MBEs, stay informed and engaged in my community, and support/vote for local, regional, and national leaders who share this value.

Hey COCC Team! I'm still trying to familiarize myself with all the ways to engage with this challenge. Currently, I've been unable to find/add my efforts with transportation. Anyone know if there is a way for me to do that?
    Thanks! Courtney

      Hello Courtney,
I just added some transportation actions to the dashboard.
If you have any recommendations for transportation actions let me know, I can add them!

In general I like to use cold water when I wash my cloths. I believe it's  gentle on my garments and my detergent recommends cold water.

Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

Personally, its hasn't become habit to bring my Nalgene with me. I tend to loose it often... I have plan! I am going to add flavored Alka-Seltzer tablets to my water. I will be more inclined to bring it with me, now that I have a tasty drink.

I'm challenging myself to carry my trash with me during this challenge. Last time I did this I ended up with a bread bag full of trash for an entire month. I've recently gotten less stringent, so I want to make a new commitment to reducing my unrecyclable, unreusable trash.
