Nov 2: Get your tickets for Hal Wershow's talk on Climate Resilience

Between record heat waves, horrific smoke and debilitating drought, we are all experiencing the anticipated effects of climate change first-hand. And while the situation is clearly dire, there is still opportunity to rewrite our climate future. Geology professor Hal Wershow will examine how our climate in Central Oregon has already changed and then share projections for what we can expect for the rest of the 21st century. After reviewing the science, he will transition into climate resilience; in other words, what can we do in our community to diminish the worst impacts and adapt to the inevitable changes. Tickets: $8 for in-person event, $5 for livestream. COCC students and staff are FREE. Email cgilbride@cocc.edu for promo code.

During more than a year of remote work, I adapted to print almost nothing for work - everything was digital. Now that we're back in the office, how can we standardize that practice? From meeting agendas to classroom handouts - what if we created a culture where we access documents digitally and avoid printing (almost) anything at all?

A recent Keen Independent Research Foundation study found that Minority Businesses Enterprises (MBEs) are more likely to have difficulties in receiving loans or city contracts. In what ways can you work to address systemic racism like that demonstrated in this study?

Once upon a time, I'd mindlessly order from Amazon if I needed something. Now I shop locally as much as possible, and prioritize my support for Black and minority-owned businesses. In addition to searching online, talking with neighbors and colleagues is a great way to both give and receive recommendations for places to support. Beyond my individual spending decisions, I can educate others about the importance of support for MBEs, stay informed and engaged in my community, and support/vote for local, regional, and national leaders who share this value.
