Do at Home
I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.

Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
Do at Home
I will spend 30 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Waste
Research Local Waste Sites

I will spend 30 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Action Track: Healing and Renewal
Core Values
Do at Home
We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.

REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Marissa Redding 10/27/2021 6:50 AMWhen I spend time outdoors, it helps me to connect with nature and appreciate the beauties of it that I don't always see in my day to day routines. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and RenewalHow does being playful with others enrich your life?
Marissa Redding 10/26/2021 1:02 PMIt allows me to relax and laugh with others. Being in college, its easy to get overwhelmed and stressed, so this activity was a very nice break. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Marissa Redding 10/26/2021 1:01 PMBuying eggs from local farmers to combat animal cruelty that can oftentimes be seen in larger farms. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Marissa Redding 10/26/2021 1:00 PMThrift stores have more than enough options to find fun, funky, and unique clothing to express yourself! -
Marissa Redding 10/26/2021 12:57 PMCan't believe the Eco Challenge is almost over already. I was able to see how many more sustainable actions I was already doing before the challenge, as well as inspire myself to add more and more from last year. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Marissa Redding 10/26/2021 12:55 PMThe electricity generated at my college is affecting the environment in many ways. Unfortunately, the convenience of being able to live on a college campus causes large concentrations of energy use. The carbon output from our electronics alone harms the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHow can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?
Marissa Redding 10/25/2021 6:08 AMI think the best way to ensure this is by making sure there is still time during the meetings to bond with one another and foster the teamwork environment that often exists naturally while working in person. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Marissa Redding 10/25/2021 6:07 AMI incorporate the Rs into my lifestyle by always using a reusable water bottle, refusing plastic straws when I go out to eat, repurposing containers I get from things like candles, and always trying to avoid the use of plastic containers when cooking. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationIt takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. How have you used technology to replace in-person meetings or work this year?
Marissa Redding 10/25/2021 6:05 AMI have been working remotely at my internship this semester instead of traveling 20 minutes to the site and back every Tuesday and Thursday -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
Marissa Redding 10/25/2021 6:04 AMI plan to put the money I am saving towards study abroad trip this Winter.-
