Water
5-Minute Showers
Do at Home
I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Simplicity
Meditate
Do at Home
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 3 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
Do at Home
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Do at Home
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
Do at Home
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus to reduce pollution in the environment and in local communities.
Water
Install a Low-Flow Showerhead
Do at Home
I will save up to 8 gallons (32 L) of water a day by installing a low-flow shower-head.
Food
Zero-Waste Cooking
Do at Home
I will cook 1 meal(s) with zero-waste each day.
Water
Fix Leaky Faucets
Do at Home
I will fix faucets or report leaky faucets to facilities that have been wasting up to 3 gallons (11 L) of water per faucet every day.
Water
Collect Rain Water
Do at Home
I will create a rain garden or bioswale or use rain barrels to collect water for outdoor watering needs.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Energy
Upgrade My Windows
Do at Home
I will upgrade the windows or weatherstripping in my home or office to reduce air leaks and save on energy costs.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Divya Ranjith 10/25/2021 2:50 PMSome local grocery stores use a lot of plastic bags and advocate for little reusable bags, and the amount of plastic being produced from one store is tremendous. When compared to all the stores in the community, plastic use is increasing at a rapid rate and can greatly affect our oceans and everyday life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Divya Ranjith 10/23/2021 8:12 PMIt felt really nice and free spending that much time outside. I explored some new trails because I haven't spent much time around here and it was a great experience. It was sunny today, but there was a chill air and it felt so calming just walking around! It relaxed me much more than usual because I know tomorrow is going to rain, so I'll be studying all day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyHow does improving your home's energy efficiency help you better live out your values?
Divya Ranjith 10/23/2021 8:13 AMFixing the the amount of energy used in a house hold does have a huge impact when it comes to climate change because it does reduce the amount of fossil fuels exerted -
Divya Ranjith 10/21/2021 8:27 PMToday I spent some time researching how to heat up my house without using much energy because it is starting to get colder. I also made some green beans today because a healthy body is just as important as a healthy earth :) -
Divya Ranjith 10/20/2021 7:18 PMToday, I used transportation that does not require much gas. I walked to nearby stores to do some food shopping and things for school rather than using a car! -
Divya Ranjith 10/19/2021 7:40 PMTomorrow is going to be a pretty long day so I decided to take a break today and walk outside for 30 minutes just to get a small break :) -
Divya Ranjith 10/18/2021 7:52 PMToday I made some meals for my mom, sister, and myself. I also learned that email does use a lot of energy sources, including fossil fuels, so I spent some time today unsubscribing and deleting a lot of my emails. Turning off notifications for google classroom was a big one. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityHow is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?
Divya Ranjith 10/17/2021 12:05 PMYou have to think a lot about meaningful ways you can make the small things natural. Creativity also means finding ways to make yourself better in a way that works just for you. This can help you practice simplicity on a daily basis. -
Divya Ranjith 10/16/2021 8:50 PMToday I spent the whole day cooking with my mom meals for the whole week. This way I won't need to buy from fast food restaurants that often. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterTrace the water that flows down the drain from your house to the largest body of water nearby. What is the route it takes?
Divya Ranjith 10/15/2021 6:13 PMIt takes it straight to the lake in front of my house. A lot of water flows through there, especially when it's raining.
