Prevent Recycling Contamination
Do at Home
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 2 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.
Action Track: Healing and Renewal
Mindfulness Practice
Do at Home
I will spend 5 minute(s) per day practicing Mindfulness.
Transportation
Walk Instead
I will walk 2 mile(s) each day instead of driving and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Action Track: Healing and Renewal
Engage In Active Listening
Do at Home
I will practice actively listening to a friend, family member, co-worker, acquaintance, or someone who I may disagree with in at least 5 conversations.
Action Track: Healing and Renewal
Forgiveness

I will begin, or continue, on the journey of forgiving myself and/or other(s). I may do this through journaling, meditation, prayer, and/or talking with a licensed healthcare professional.
Health
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Do at Home
I will spend 5 minutes researching environmental justice and environmental racism concerns in my region, who is affected by them, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Transportation
Choose a Carbon Offset
If buying a plane ticket, I will also buy a carbon offset.
Energy
Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
Do at Home
I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option.
Energy
Install Alternative Energy
Do at Home
I will install an alternative energy system, such as solar electric systems or solar water heaters.
Energy
Upgrade Heating & Cooling Units
Do at Home
I will replace inefficient heating and cooling units with energy saving units.
Energy
Use an Energy Meter
Do at Home
I will use an energy meter to monitor my energy use and identify opportunities to save power.
Energy
Upgrade My Windows
Do at Home
I will upgrade the windows or weatherstripping in my home or office to reduce air leaks and save on energy costs.
Energy
Online Energy Audit
Do at Home
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Energy
Replace Manual Thermostats
Do at Home
I will replace manual thermostats with programmable ones.
Energy
Support Resilient Powergrids
Do at Home
A community can be brought to its knees without dependable power, often affecting the most vulnerable. I will write 1 letter(s) or email(s) per day to a public official or company to advocate for a more resilient power grid (e.g. microgrids, solar+storage).
Health
Reduce Refined Sugar
Do at Home
I will adopt a diet free of refined sugars, which eliminates sweetened beverages, candy, and processed foods.
Food
Organize a Course
Do at Home
I will organize one of Ecochallenge.org's discussion courses on food sustainability, Menu for the Future or Hungry for Change, with my family, friends, coworkers, or classmates.
Waste
Research Local Waste Sites
Do at Home
I will spend 1 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
Do at Home
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Energy
Calculate the Carbon Footprint of my Household
Do at Home
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
Do at Home
I will replace 2 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Health
Audit Toxic Cleaning Products in my Home
Do at Home

Do at Home
I will spend at least 1 minutes learning about water and air quality issues in my area, how they are impacting human and environmental health, and how I can help.
Transportation
Car Share
I will sign up for a car-sharing service, or organize car sharing with my neighbors, to cut down on the number of vehicles on the road.
Transportation
Stay on the Ground
Do at Home
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).
Transportation

Mostafa Khosravy 10/12/2021 5:55 AMNet-zero carbon emissions in cement production
Concrete is indispensable in the development of infrastructure, industry and housing. It’s a mixture of aggregates (sand, gravel, crushed stone), water and cement, and whose production accounts for 95 % of concrete’s CO2 footprint. European Commission recently finished a project called "Low Emissions Intensity Lime and Cement" or LEILAC. The project covers lots of ideas but what impressed me the most is called "Calix".
Calix’s Direct Separation technology re-engineers the existing process flows of a traditional calciner by indirectly heating the limestone. This system enables pure CO2 to be captured as it is released from the limestone because the furnace exhaust gases are kept separate. This innovation requires minimal changes to the conventional processes for cement, and simply replaces the pre-calciner. This simple and effective solution requires no additional chemicals or processes.

Mostafa Khosravy 10/08/2021 6:31 AMReuse Your Ink Cartridges
Many locations that sell new printer ink cartridges will refill your old cartridge. Each cartridge you throw away takes anywhere between 400 and 1,000 years to decompose. Do you know on average, 11 cartridges thrown out every minute across the globe!
Not all cartridges can be refilled, and even cartridges you've filled in the past will eventually break down after continual use. I would recommend, take them to the store where you bought them and recycle them. Sometimes, the store will even give you a discount on your next ink cartridge.-
Courtney Groszhans 10/08/2021 10:23 AMThank you for sharing, Mostafa! A lot of department stores will take clothes now to recycle and Best Buy takes old electronics to recycle too.

Mostafa Khosravy 10/06/2021 6:31 AMInvestment is increasing in hydrogen projects to support the clean energy transition, but further efforts are needed to reduce costs and encourage wider use across sectors. This is a conclusion from the latest report of IEA as part of CEM H2I initiative. see the entire report here: https://www.iea.org/reports/global-hydrogen-review-2021
