Paola Villegas 10/27/2021 7:22 AMYay! We made it to the end! It's great to see everyone's progress :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Paola Villegas 10/27/2021 7:19 AMI've been using a reusable water bottle for years now. My only barrier to using a reusable water bottle is remembering to take it with you. Since I was forgetting my water bottle at home, I bought one for work. Now I have two, one for work and one for home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Paola Villegas 10/27/2021 7:15 AMI didn't have a problem switching to a reusable coffee cup. I love my new cup, it holds more coffee and it keeps it nice and hot. I leave my cup at work so I don't forget it at home. I really enjoy using my reusable mug and knowing I'm making a difference for the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Paola Villegas 10/27/2021 7:09 AMI already do. I try my best to recycle everything. When I can't I try to find a good home for the items. If the item can't be reused, repair or repurposed, I then use Ridwell to recycle. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Paola Villegas 10/27/2021 7:02 AMWhenever I don't have a reusable bag with me or I'm not allowed to use my own, I use the cart. I take everything to my car using the grocery cart. I always carry reusable bags in my car. Once I transfer my groceries to my bags I return the grocery cart to the store. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Paola Villegas 10/27/2021 6:59 AMI replaced all my single used items with reusable, environmental friendly items. I love my insulated coffee cup that keeps my coffee nice and hot. I have several reusable bags in my car ready for grocery shopping. I completely gave up straws and use my reusable water bottle every day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Support Pollution ReductionWhat environmental factors affect human health in your region, and how do they affect it?
Paola Villegas 10/27/2021 6:54 AMEnvironmental pollutants such as air pollution can cause health problems like respiratory diseases, heart disease and some types of cancers. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Learn More about Food ApartheidWhat can lack of access to nutritious food affect a community? How can having access to nutritious food help a community become more resilient?
Paola Villegas 10/27/2021 6:51 AMCommunities with limited nutritious food access tend to have less healthy diets and run a higher risk for chronic disease such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and some cancers. Having access to healthy foods can decrease chronic disease in our community. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth ForgivenessHow has the process of forgiving, or contemplating forgiveness, benefited you?
Paola Villegas 10/26/2021 8:20 AMWhen you hold on to a grudge, your body and mind are stuck dealing with additional stress. What's helped me is to try to understand the other persons perspective and work through my emotions. But in the end forgiving and letting go is more for my own benefit that anyone else's. If we choose not to forgive, we subject ourselves to the possibility of carrying anger, bitterness and resentment into future situations and relationships, as well as deprive ourselves of the peace of mind, health and happiness we deserve.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Learn About Local Environmental Justice ConcernsWho is most affected by environmental degradation and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?
Paola Villegas 10/26/2021 7:31 AMWe are all affected by environmental degradation in one way or another. However, Wildlife, plants and animals are also substantially impacted. Deforestation, wasting resources and pollution all add to the demise of an environmentally sound and safe planet. When trees in forests are cut down in large quantities, so that homes can be built on the land, the birds and wildlife who lived in the forest must find a new place to live.
