Today is our last day to play the People’s EcoChallenge. I would love to reflect on what we have all learned so far, and what we are currently in the process of learning still. Which action item has made the most impact on you? Share with me in the comments below.

My favorite “harsh” cleanser isn’t harsh at all! It’s made of ground cherry pits! It’s a very effective abrasive, but it smells like heaven. It’s by environmentally friendly brand Shaklee and called Scour Off. It’s pricey, but I’ve had mine for 10 years and still have plenty left!

Following up after the Live Q&A with Kahea, the Ceo of Women's Earth Alliance, I was inspired to create the Action item of how to calculate your carbon footprints. My footprint was 50 tons CO2/year. One thing I did notice more was that since I am vegan the amount of food contributions to Co2 were lower. What is your footprint? Find out how to calculate it here: https://www.nature.org/en-us/get-involved/how-to-help/carbon-footprint-calculator/

Laundry is an area we could probably all do a little better in… whether it is only doing full loads, washing in cold water, or trying eco-friendly laundry products like soap nuts and wool dryer balls. What are your green laundry tips?

I guess another really simple thing is to wear clothes a lot before you wash them! :) My husband and I are in the habit of wearing clothes many times before putting them in the laundry hamper. We have a solar water heater, so depending on the weather, hot water can be precious. So we pretty much always do laundry in cold water (and save the hot for washing our bodies).

What daily actions are you taking? Mine is “I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.” Completing a daily action automatically gets you 10 points each time you mark it off as completed. Let's see how many we can all get! For more information on how to get more points, check out their website here.

I appreciated this article on tips for using less plastic. Sometimes I am not fully aware of my habits and seeing how plastic negatively affects people and the environment is a great reminder for me to use less plastic daily. If you would like these helpful tips, check out the article here from the action called “Reduce Single-Use Disposables" here.

Did anyone else choose an action item of reducing animal products by eating vegan meals? Here is another recipe that is my favorite: sweet potato tacos! Heat up the sweet potatoes in the oven until they are soft, heat up black beans, add seasonings if you like (I like to use salt, garlic powder, and basil), when the sweet potatoes are ready you peel them and place them in a corn taco shell with the beans, add avocado slices and tomatoes as well! Share with me a recipe!

That recipe sounds fantastic, Liz! I love sweet potatoes and never thought to put them in a taco. I am making the avocado-cashew-lemon pasta sauce tonight (recipe I posted some days ago) with extra veggies (tomato, tomatillo, carrot, broccoli, chard, etc.) My husband has been out of town for 3 weeks and this is one of his welcome home dinners! :)

Did you know that “mining and oil extraction, ...building of pipelines, and the increasing privatization of water resources… place immense pressures on our ability to access and equitably distribute safe water”? For more information, check out this article I am reading under the action called “Get Involved In the Water Justice Movement” link here.

What was your favorite part about getting to hear Clair from TreeSisters speak? I loved how she is so passionate and talked about following your passions to change the world for the better by being yourself. She is a perfect example of how we can all be the change we wish to see! For those of you who missed it, check out the link here

Each time I listen to Clair, I am energized by her utter passion and uninhibitedness for feeling what she is feeling, following where those feelings lead, and never censoring or judging what she is being shown through those feelings. I LOVE this uninhibitedness and feel more able to live and breathe into that myself when I listen to her.
