The last day is so sad, but I learned a lot of great information.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community Learn About Trans, Femme, and Nonbinary Experiences
How is equality for trans, femme, and nonbinary people important to a just and sustainable society?

Equality for trans, femme, and nonbinary people is important because they are humans living on planet Earth. They are often treated worse than other members of society and much more likely to live in poverty and are subject to a greater amount of discrimination and violence.

Today, I attended a Zoom lecture from the University of York entitled, "The New Age of Empire: How Racism and Colonialism Still Rule the World." The author, Professor Kehinde Andrews stated there are only 160 black professors in England. There are 20,000 professors in the country. That was a gut wrenching statement.

After years avoiding straws completely, I have started using them, again. Re-useable of course! We have them, but my kids horde them. I just got to the clean dishes before them.

I have lived in the state of Arizona for almost 30 years. I have done a lot of camping and exploring of the state in that time. Since moving here I have learned to love the unique diversity of the geography of this state. It is home.

Fun fact about Phoenix:  The Hohokams built the very first canals in the area around the year 200 AD. They built over 250 miles of canals by hand. They lived in the Phoenix area for 1200 years. It was the largest pre-Columbian irrigation system built in the Western Hemisphere. These canals were used as the basis of our current canal system we use today.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community Watch a Documentary about Racial Injustice
What did you learn about racial injustice in the documentary(ies) you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of sustainability?

Racial injustice is woven into the fabric of our country. People of color are disproportionately denied their fundamental Constitutional rights. Communities of color are more likely be food deserts meaning there are little to no choices of fresh foods due to the lack of grocery stores and are filled with fast food restaurants. Many of these restaurants serve their food in single use plastic containers. Factories and disposal centers are also more likely to be in these communities, as well, causing contamination of the areas.
