I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.

DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Skip the Straw

Do at Home

Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

COMPLETED 20
DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Use Reusable Bags

If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.

When I use multiple reuseable straws each day I wonder if it is still eco-friendly because of how it needs more water to be washed.

It's important to continue my actions even after the eco challenge is over, I am now thinking about other things I can incorporate into my daily life to better the Earth.

With a day left of the eco challenge, I have realized how simple it really is to care about the Earth.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water 5-Minute Showers
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

I realize how much water I use each day, when I brush my teeth, do laundry, and water plants. To keep these water systems healthy I can make it a habit to be more considerate about how much water I use each day.

By keeping reuseable bags in the back of my parents car I won’t be able to forget them.

I think that I prefer metal straws over the reuseable hard plastic ones, but I do think my reusable plastic ones have good designs compared to the metal ones.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

I think that if I pay attention more to what can be recycled and not buy as many clothes as I do I could make a difference.

If you ever need a place to get reuseable bags I recommend Trader Joe’s because they have plenty of designs.

Yesterday I had forgot to bring a reuseable bag to Target, I thought I would have to carry what I bought but I remembered that I had left a bag in the back of my dads car.

I think it’s very good that I am being more concerned about the Earth. I can see myself continuing with these goals long term.
