REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Sign Up to VoteWhy is voting important to creating a just, sustainable, and thriving world? In what other ways can you actively participate in important decision-making?
Alex Kampf 10/26/2021 3:53 PMVoting is extremely important in our democratic republic. Votes set decision makers in place to set precedents or over-turn dated ones. In a time where democratic principles are being vigorously challenged by centralized power, voting for those that will protect the interest of the people is invaluable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Core ValuesWhat are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?
Alex Kampf 10/26/2021 3:51 PMFall is always a good time to reflect. The coming months allow for lots of rest and focus towards the what's next. My core values are rooted in how I treat others and myself. Mindfulness is number one. Observing and being present, spending more time outside the brain rather than inside. It was easy to choose first as the lens of presence provides clarity to everything else. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Go PaperlessReducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Alex Kampf 10/26/2021 3:47 PMI hardly ever receive important mail. Opting paperless definitely draws some ire towards companies that print non-stop flyers that go directly to the recycling or trash. Its a trashy look for that company and at this modern age of digital information, quite embarrassing -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Alex Kampf 10/26/2021 3:39 PMI collected seeds from a few different trees in my yard and nearby neighbors. They are native trees that tend to be difficult in propagation. I am hoping some of them make it to saplings! Planting trees is a humbling reminder that we are not more than stewards of the land we inhabit. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Audit Toxic Cleaning Products in my HomeTo what extent do environmental factors contribute to your own health or issues with health?
Alex Kampf 10/26/2021 3:36 PMEnvironmental factors are a big impact on personal health. When it comes to products in the home there are many opportunities to limit exposure to toxic compounds commonly found in household products. We make nearly all of our cleaning products from just a few ingredients and suffer no reduction in cleaning performance or needless inhalation of fumes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Join My Neighborhood AssociationHow can your community support inclusive decision making?
Alex Kampf 10/26/2021 3:30 PMI am only in the beginning steps of getting involved in my neighborhood. I attended the most recent meeting observed how it currently functions and look forward to being more involved. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Alex Kampf 10/26/2021 3:27 PMI have composted in the past but never had a great system to do so. I still am not pleased with my compost set up, I just toss food scraps into various compost piles in the yard. I absolutely notice how much I am tossing and thus implementing a more permanent solution. I intend to use the compost for all the goodies in my garden! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Mulch the Base of Trees and PlantsWhere are your nearest natural bodies of water? How might they be affected by runoff?
Alex Kampf 10/13/2021 11:28 AMThe Columbia River is the nearest natural water body. My property runoff heads to the storm drains. Fertilizers and other chemicals can cause environmental harm in runoff. I choose to be 100% chemical free in my yard and roof to prevent unintended discharge. I am also choosing specific plants for my slopes which bind soil and prevent excessive runoff. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Joyful MovementWhat's your favorite activity(ies) in which you experience joy while being active and moving?
Alex Kampf 10/13/2021 11:19 AMVacuuming! Something about roaming the house with this magic power eraser is a blast for me. Also gardening and cooking. I listen to music and dance about the kitchen or am gleefully giving attention to each living thing in my yard. Few of may favorite ways to be non-idle. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Alex Kampf 10/12/2021 11:35 AMThe most effective food choice I make to do less harm is buying whole food products that are not processed or wrapped in plastic. This could be mushrooms by the lb or buying rice in bulk. Avoiding products that have an unnecessary plastic wrap addition is a top priority.
