Lura's actions

Energy

Repair and replace old insulation in my attic

After construction, I noticed last month that the workers left a number of areas with insulation pushed back or torn up when they did some re-wiring, allowing for a lot of heat loss.

Its so more ingrained and invisible than it seems at first.

A mixed bag. Somethings are easy, but others not so much, or point to some areas where considerable investment may be required. I feel more empathy for my customers!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Its large for a single house, but small for a duplex - which is what mine really is due to tenants in the lower 1/2.  The biggest opportunity is the baseboard heat in the tenant space. I will investigate options to help them operate those more efficiently, as well as a possible upgrade to the DHW heater
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

The biggest difference for me is probably being more careful with over  cooling in the summer, as well as looking at eventually upgrading the electric heat in my basement rental.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

We are lucky enough to have both hydro and wind as a part of our energy mix, but still rely on coal as well. Plus hydro is not without its impacts on the fish and other life in the rivers.  And of course the asthma, and other lung and heart issues that result from burning coal are documented.  Better to use less as well as use cleaner technologies to generate.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing and Renewal Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

I get up pretty early. The problem is that I still waste time in the evening and burn an extra hour on screen time when I really should just go to sleep.  My best ritual is to soak in my hot tub for 20 minutes at night *instead of screen time.  It i so much more soothing to sit outside and look at the trees/stars/etc than to surf the web/youtube. Plus, after I soakI am ready for bed!

How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

Whatever I focus on, grows -  negative or positive. Practicing gratitude renews my positive energy, and gives me a greater sense of being a part of a bigger picture. Once I am a part of this bigger picture/world, I am more inclined to care for it.

Great to be a part of this! It's so easy to get caught up doing the same old same old. Glad for the chance to make some changes, and some support in helping them stick!
