  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Forage for My Food
People are motivated to forage for many different reasons: as a source for food, a means of income, to connect with nature, to participate in cultural tradition, transmitting specific ecological knowledge, or as a means of stewarding local and native plant populations are just a few examples. What is your chief motivation for foraging?

My chief motivation for learning about foraging for my own food locally is that i want to learn where the best place to get fresh food is from. I would love to find a good fishing spot and catch fish.

The eco challenge is going great - I’m starting to be more and more aware of my bad habits (straws) which is the first step in breaking that habit!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

Usually I carry them. I think I could definitely start keeping reusable bags in my car or near the front door so I don’t forget them.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing and Renewal Nurture Self-Compassion
How can nurturing your Self-Compassion also nurture healthier relationships with others and the environment?

    Jourdan Bruce's avatar

because you can't fill someone else up, if you have nothing to give. If you fill yourself up with love, you'll have more love to give.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Who is most affected by environmental degradation and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?

    Jourdan Bruce's avatar

In the area, Canyon County has the biggest number of low income community members. The biggest way that they are affected is not enough access to public transportation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Practice Loving-Kindness Meditation
How can practicing Loving-Kindness Meditation be helpful to the health of the environment?

    Jourdan Bruce's avatar
    Jourdan Bruce 10/07/2021 9:52 AM
The world has put so much pressure on us as humans to perform, to be perfect and to never mess up... which is very overwhelming. Practicing loving-kindness meditations can give you the freedom to look at yourself in a more kind way to that you CAN be who you want to be. How can you be healthy when you're the last person you're giving love and kindness to?
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

    Jourdan Bruce's avatar
    Jourdan Bruce 10/07/2021 9:48 AM
I struggle the most with reducing, but I can be more aware of what I'm choosing to purchase/grab (straws).  I think the first big step in achieving anything is awareness.

Last year, I joined the challenge not really knowing what it was and had so much fun with it. This year, I joined the challenge because I am actually starting to really like sustainable living. I didn't grow up in a place that thought it was important, but it's definitely growing on me!
