BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

There is always time that I can make to keep improving the life of my community, my self, and the earth. There are so many resources out there to learn from and it just takes prioritizing the time and effort to make small changes.

    Water Collect Rain Water
Trace the water that flows down the drain from your house to the largest body of water nearby. What is the route it takes?

I think about where our surface water goes a lot, actually, because our neighborhood doesn’t have storm drains and we don’t live close to any bodies of water. How much eventually evaporates vs infiltrating into the ground? And how does that infiltration affect us and what we grow, if the water isn’t treated?

    Nature Do Nature Activities
What did you observe while spending time outside -- through sight, sound, smell and/or touch?

I picked this challenge to motivate me to get outside even as it gets colder, wetter, and darker. I am happier when I get some outside time, and James is too. October, although a rainy one this year, is so beautiful with the fall colors.

Getting a cold this weekend means I did not finish off the challenge as strong as I started it. But the good news is that I can keep working on my challenges even if EcoChallenge is officially over! 🌎

    Food Join a Local CSA
Dependable fresh food, better prices (cutting out carbon-heavy supply chain and grocery stores), supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these benefits (or others not listed here) inspires you the most?

Supporting local farmers and cutting the food delivery supply line are particularly inspiring for me.

Almost to the end! Trying to keep myself motivated to finish some of the one-time actions and daily actions I've put off

Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community Watch a Documentary about Racial Injustice
What did you learn about racial injustice in the documentary(ies) you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of sustainability?

13th. How the criminal justice and prison systems in our country have created and exacerbated the inequality of racial identities.
The same can be true when it comes to dirty energy  and other non-sustainable items and our independence on them. Our system (way of life) is deeply rooted with these non-sustainable items, it has become clear that the balance for equality on a sustainable front is more challenging day in and day out.

Well HEA'ers, it's the final day of the People's EcoChallenge. Great job over the past 3 weeks of making a difference. BRAVO!

    Transportation Work From Home
It takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. How have you used technology to replace in-person meetings or work this year?

By use of Microsoft teams and other virtual meeting programs, i have been able to attend meetings that otherwise would require either travel to the office or jobsite.
