I will begin, or continue, on the journey of forgiving myself and/or other(s). I may do this through journaling, meditation, prayer, and/or talking with a licensed healthcare professional.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
Do at Home
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Water
Calculate My Water Footprint
Do at Home
I will calculate my Water Footprint to learn about my tap water use and "virtual water" use.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterHow does your view on water consumption change after completing this action?
Lindsey White 10/26/2021 1:22 PMI wasted a lot of water by being selfish. Keeping my water running while brushing my teeth or using water to remove something instead of hand cleaning it were easier for me and very selfish behaviors. I will continue to modify the way in which I use and reuse water (water my dogs don't drink can be fed to my outdoor plants, etc.) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodMany people say that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” How would you respond to that statement?
Lindsey White 10/26/2021 1:20 PMThat we dont know that for fact as we have been operating on genetically modified foods for so long. We have plenty of food in this world that not a single person should go hungry; However, money, transportation and lack of investment do not allow that to be a reality.
I think organic food can be fed to everyone but we need to encourage society to not look at items as being a picture perfect, in order to consume them (apples and bananas are both examples of how foods have evolved to look a certain way for people to eat. Imperfect Produce is a prime example of trying to eliminate food waste, and getting people to identify the physical differences between GMO food and Organic food) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and RenewalFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Lindsey White 10/26/2021 1:17 PMWalking for me is multi-functional. I have two very adorable dogs who need and love walks. Its not only great for their physical health but also for the stimulation they get from all the smells, sights and sounds. What I've noticed is that is has a similar effect on me. Nature has always been a grounding place for me. I can instantly feel stress release when I am surrounded by a forest, or hearing waves crash around ,e. Nature is something that has always been important to me. What daily walks do is push me to not only connect with my direct surroundings but to also notice how nature works. Recently I have been enamored with the changing of the leaves and the entire process of fall and how it makes me feel. One one hand it is phenomenal to see nature change into a new season, but sad knowing for the next handful of months the trees will be bare, the weather is colder and the environment in general, is a little more sleepy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Lindsey White 10/26/2021 1:13 PMI used plastic straws without a care for a very long time. But my family and friends have influenced me to start caring around metal straws. For a while when it was convenient, I would use single use plastic utensils. This can be corrected with the way I approached plastic straw; by carrying around reusable utensils. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Lindsey White 10/26/2021 1:10 PMMeat is expensive, especially good quality meat. The reason I find meat to be expensive is because we produce meat purely for consumption; within this system we've been able to identify different types of meat (by quality) which creates a scale in which meat can be priced. Cheaper meat is often sold in larger quantities as well which also inflates the prices. Access to meat is also a consideration. Due to where farming takes place there are increased costs in the production and transportation of meat.
Buying meat has become a staple for this country and the idea of "protein" only being identified as meat has created generations who have only seen a balance meal through the lens of including a meat option in their meals. We are slowly starting to see this as an outdated philosophy toward meal planning BUT are now finding that alternatives to meat are also expensive and not available to individual at lower incomes. It'll be interesting to see if organic, meatless alternatives, and healthier food options in general, will be made available to individual at a reasonable price to assist people in making healthier food choices and improving their overall health. -
Lindsey White 10/12/2021 8:18 AMHello Team!
Let's get our daily actions in and completed. I hope you are enjoying this experience as much as I am. I know it's holding me accountable to the actions I said I would do in addition to ensuring I don't revert back to some of my "lazy" behaviors when I begin to feel tired, and do what's easiest over what is better for the environment and my health. Keep up the great work, team! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and RenewalHow has the process of forgiving, or contemplating forgiveness, benefited you?
Lindsey White 10/08/2021 8:05 AMIt has allowed me to listen to my body more and improved my physical health by not pushing myself to do things just because it's on my list of things to accomplish. If I am tired and there are a couple dishes in the sink, it's okay to go to bed early and do the dishes the next day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and RenewalWhat's your favorite activity(ies) in which you experience joy while being active and moving?
Lindsey White 10/08/2021 8:02 AMBeyond walking my dogs when I get home from work, I've also been making a point to make these walks more intentional for myself. I've started exploring new neighborhoods, stumbling upon new parks and paths that have led to some pretty awesome fall scenery. I've also pushed myself to cook more actively (meaning I've tried to spread things out in my kitchen space to encourage more movement in an activity that is often looked at as very minimal in physical movement)
