Dana's actions
Action Track: Healing and Renewal
Go for a Daily Walk Outside
Do at Home
I will take a walk outside for 45 minutes each day.
Action Track: Healing and Renewal
Healthy Sleep
Do at Home
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 10 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Action Track: Healing and Renewal
Practice Gratitude for Earth
Do at Home
I will spend 15 minute(s) per day outside, practicing gratitude (prayer, meditation, journaling, etc.) for Earth and my natural surroundings.
Action Track: Healing and Renewal
Nurture Self-Compassion
Do at Home
I will spend 5 minutes nurturing my Self-Compassion.
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Do at Home
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate. I will keep 2 container(s) out of the landfill each day.

Dana Slade 10/27/2021 4:43 AMI hope you all have enjoyed this EcoChallenge half as much as I have. Thanks for joining our team!
Here is one last bit of nature trivia: Did you know that Tamaracks are a conifer that change color in the Fall and drop their needles. Here is a picture of a couple I took yesterday.

Dana Slade 10/26/2021 3:38 AMWhere we walked on Sun the leaves were mostly yellow, except this one! -
Dana Slade 10/25/2021 4:39 AMGood morning, all;

Dana Slade 10/21/2021 4:45 AMWe have just under one week left in the challenge. I hope everyone has enjoyed this event! I know I have learned a few things and challenged myself a bit too.
Here is a picture of a poster I saw this summer at the Mille Lacs Indian Trading Post. It really spoke to me.
Thanks everyone for coming on this journey with us.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Dana Slade 10/21/2021 4:41 AMFor me, having a consistent schedule is the key. I have only used my alarm clock 2-3 times the last 19 months. Hope everyone is enjoying this event! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Go for a Daily Walk OutsideFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Dana Slade 10/20/2021 5:23 AMWhen I walk my dogs I like to bring an extra bag to pick up trash and recyclables we find along the way. Way too much litter, especially in the Spring, and Fall after they trim the tall grasses in the parks. Here is a picture of some litter I picked up! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Nurture Self-CompassionHow can nurturing your Self-Compassion also nurture healthier relationships with others and the environment?
Dana Slade 10/18/2021 4:04 AMSitting around a fire is such a calming activity. There just seems to be some sort of deep connection to our past. Really makes you stop and think. Here is a picture of a fire I had yesterday!

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Practice Gratitude for EarthKathleen Dean Moore says that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation. Do you agree? How can we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals, and as a society?
Dana Slade 10/15/2021 4:59 AMSince the pandemic started and I have been working from home I have noticed many "new" things in my surroundings. They have always been there I have just been going too fast to notice. This is one silver lining from this past 19 months, a slow down in the pace of life.
Here is a picture of a sunrise I took earlier this week. Best I've seen in quite a while. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Justice for the Whole Community Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Dana Slade 10/14/2021 4:11 AMMy wife and I like to dine out, on the patio! We always try to have reusable "to go" containers in our car to bring leftovers home. I have two of them from our hospitals that I leave in my car for such occasions.-
MJ Burke 10/26/2021 5:17 AMDana: I never thought of this.... good idea! thanks, MJ -
Allison Egan 10/14/2021 8:20 AMThat's a great idea! Note to self: buy reusable "to go" containers for the car!
