  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
Consider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?

Currently, the herbs that I have growing are lavender rosemary and mint. The lavender is planted in a 5-gallon water bucket in my backyard the mint is in a flower pot in a sunny window at my house. My rosemary is still growing in a peat pot in my dorm. I find that a movable container works best for me. It contains your plants and stops them from taking over (mint I'm looking at you), allows you easy transport if they needed to be moved, allows you the ability to move your plants indoors or outdoors, and generally makes harvesting easier.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
Dependable fresh food, better prices (cutting out carbon-heavy supply chain and grocery stores), supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these benefits (or others not listed here) inspires you the most?

My family and I have been part of a CSA for over 10 years. Every year from the beguinning of June to the end of October once a week we go and pick up a bucket of vegetables and fruits. For our family the best parts are supporting our local farmers as well as getting fresh fruits and vegatbles that we would not normally be able to get at a store.
