Marvin's actions
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Do at Home
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate. I will keep 1 container(s) out of the landfill each day.
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
Do at Home
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper per day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided when I have to print documents.
Transportation
Work From Home
Do at Home
I will work from home 3 day(s) to avoid my commute's carbon output.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
Do at Home
I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Do at Home
I will keep 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Do at Home
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Marvin Guzman 10/25/2021 10:20 AMAn easy goal to start is to stop using straws at restaurants, this reduces on waste -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Justice for the Whole CommunityWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Marvin Guzman 10/20/2021 5:59 AMI use plastic disposable bags often and started using reusable plastic dishes instead. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteChoosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?
Marvin Guzman 10/14/2021 5:42 AMBefore printing, ask yourself if you really do need the document printed or can you use it electronically? If you must print, print double sided and only what you need. Be sure to recycle after you are done with the document.
