Aaisha Fatima 10/28/2021 9:08 AMwoohoo congrats to everyone! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterHow do you think climate change will affect your region’s water supply? Think about the effects of weather, storms, salinity, and sea level rise, among other changes. How can you find out more about climate change’s impact to your region's water?
Aaisha Fatima 10/27/2021 5:33 PMSafe drinking water and water pollution are 2 water related issues that climate change will impact Chicago area's water supply. For example, nutrient pollution, the increase of nitrogen and phosphorus due to climate change, it is costly to treat, reduces access to safe drinking water and has detrimental downstream impacts to the ecosystems and food chain reliant on water... including humans. -
Aaisha Fatima 10/27/2021 5:25 PMVery exciting to finish the challenge... I feel like it really flew by! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationReducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?
Aaisha Fatima 10/27/2021 5:24 PMThe 2 biggest motivators for me are reducing fuel costs (who doesn't want to save money!) and becoming energy independent. Not having to stop by gas stations to fuel up sounds great to me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Aaisha Fatima 10/27/2021 5:13 PMMeat is definitely more expensive and therefore may contribute to higher consumption in wealthier countries. Eating meat is not sustainable for the planet and a vegetarian or vegan-friendly diet can support health on an individual level! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat sustainability issues are most pressing or prominent where you live?
Aaisha Fatima 10/27/2021 5:11 PMTransportation accessibility, environmental justice, and clean water are three sustainability issues that come to mind and are important to me where I live. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNaturePeople are motivated to forage for many different reasons: as a source for food, a means of income, to connect with nature, to participate in cultural tradition, transmitting specific ecological knowledge, or as a means of stewarding local and native plant populations are just a few examples. What is your chief motivation for foraging?
Aaisha Fatima 10/26/2021 7:59 PMI love the idea of foraging, which can be challenging to operationalize as a city-dweller! I enjoyed learning about urban foraging as a way to do that and for me, as a person who loves gardening and growing my own herbs, it's an opportunity to practice sustainability on a small scale in my own home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?
Aaisha Fatima 10/26/2021 7:53 PMOh boy! This is tough because there are so many easy things everyone can do to help support a sustainable community! One thing I can do better and have started healthy practices through this challenge, is eat less meat. In addition to less carbon footprint, this is also very healthy! -
Aaisha Fatima 10/26/2021 7:49 PMI am interested in how other folks' experiences were during this challenge and anything interesting learned.
