    woohoo congrats to everyone!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Insulate Water Pipes and Water Heater
How do you think climate change will affect your region’s water supply? Think about the effects of weather, storms, salinity, and sea level rise, among other changes. How can you find out more about climate change’s impact to your region's water?

    Aaisha Fatima's avatar
    Aaisha Fatima 10/27/2021 5:33 PM
Safe drinking water and water pollution are 2 water related issues that climate change will impact Chicago area's water supply. For example, nutrient pollution, the increase of nitrogen and phosphorus due to climate change, it is costly to treat, reduces access to safe drinking water and has detrimental downstream impacts to the ecosystems and food chain reliant on water... including humans.

Very exciting to finish the challenge... I feel like it really flew by!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Advocate for Greener Vehicles
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

    Aaisha Fatima's avatar
    Aaisha Fatima 10/27/2021 5:24 PM
The 2 biggest motivators for me are reducing fuel costs (who doesn't want to save money!) and becoming energy independent. Not having to stop by gas stations to fuel up sounds great to me.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Aaisha Fatima's avatar
    Aaisha Fatima 10/27/2021 5:13 PM
Meat is definitely more expensive and therefore may contribute to higher consumption in wealthier countries. Eating meat is not sustainable for the planet and a vegetarian or vegan-friendly diet can support health on an individual level!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Express My Support
What sustainability issues are most pressing or prominent where you live?

    Aaisha Fatima's avatar
    Aaisha Fatima 10/27/2021 5:11 PM
Transportation accessibility, environmental justice, and clean water are three sustainability issues that come to mind and are important to me where I live.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Forage for My Food
People are motivated to forage for many different reasons: as a source for food, a means of income, to connect with nature, to participate in cultural tradition, transmitting specific ecological knowledge, or as a means of stewarding local and native plant populations are just a few examples. What is your chief motivation for foraging?

    Aaisha Fatima's avatar
    Aaisha Fatima 10/26/2021 7:59 PM
I love the idea of foraging, which can be challenging to operationalize as a city-dweller! I enjoyed learning about urban foraging as a way to do that and for me, as a person who loves gardening and growing my own herbs, it's an opportunity to practice sustainability on a small scale in my own home.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Switch to Cold Water
What do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?

    Aaisha Fatima's avatar
    Aaisha Fatima 10/26/2021 7:55 PM
I plan to spend it spoiling my sweet pup!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Volunteer in My Community
What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?

    Aaisha Fatima's avatar
    Aaisha Fatima 10/26/2021 7:53 PM
Oh boy! This is tough because there are so many easy things everyone can do to help support a sustainable community! One thing I can do better and have started healthy practices through this challenge, is eat less meat. In addition to less carbon footprint, this is also very healthy!
