John's actions
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
Do at Home
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper per day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided when I have to print documents.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Do at Home
I will keep 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
Do at Home
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
Do at Home
I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 2 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
Do at Home
I will take a 30-minute walk outside each day.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
John Coffey 10/20/2021 12:58 PMI would rather spend this money on experiences with the kids and grandkids to make long term memories. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
John Coffey 10/20/2021 12:55 PMI experience the quiet of the neighborhood every morning on our daily walk. This time of year, since the walk is in the dark, many of the Halloween decorations are still on which adds some color. The quiet and calmness of the morning is sometimes interrupted by the eagle family in flight or calling out. I would miss my morning walks. -
John Coffey 10/06/2021 8:43 AMJohn Coffey, PM Naples Florida. I joined because we are all responsible for the world around us. And, it's a good way to continuously reassess my actions to make sure I make good decisions.
