This challenge has legitimately changed some behaviors for me long term and has given me insights and education opportunities every single year - so I gladly participate. Thanks as well to all who selflessly partake in order to make our community better.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Where are your nearest natural bodies of water? How might they be affected by runoff?

    Nicole Campbell's avatar
    Nicole Campbell 10/27/2021 9:57 AM
Runoff is a major contributor to pollution - so everything we use on our lawns, sidewalks and roofs (major chemical application locations) ends up in our water eventually. Being mindful of what you're sending in to runoff is an important part of your ecological contribution to your community.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Plant Trees
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

    Nicole Campbell's avatar
    Nicole Campbell 10/26/2021 12:05 PM
So many ways that it is good to plant trees! I am a huge gardener - and watching them mature and grow under your care is so good for mental and spiritual healthy - and maintaining them throughout the years is really good for your physical health as well! Running a shovel or weeding around the trees is a legit workout if you frame it right!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Forage for My Food
People are motivated to forage for many different reasons: as a source for food, a means of income, to connect with nature, to participate in cultural tradition, transmitting specific ecological knowledge, or as a means of stewarding local and native plant populations are just a few examples. What is your chief motivation for foraging?

    Nicole Campbell's avatar
    Nicole Campbell 10/26/2021 11:43 AM
I found this exercise so satisfying! To find sites that help forage for food right in my neighborhood was so fun. I was even able to report a persimmon tree in my neighborhood after asking the owners if it was ok to post. Now that heavy laden tree is providing to all manner of folks around the neighborhood.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing and Renewal Family Game Hour
How does being playful with others enrich your life?

    Nicole Campbell's avatar
    Nicole Campbell 10/25/2021 9:15 AM
Laughter is one of the best bonding tools out there. When you take time for play it deepens relationships and forms lasting bonds. Doing these things with your family formulates a baseline of trust and lets your loved ones know you're just as willing to share joy with them as you are with any other of a broad range of experiences.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water Calculate My Water Footprint
How does your view on water consumption change after completing this action?

    Nicole Campbell's avatar
    Nicole Campbell 10/24/2021 5:30 PM
I have always been pretty conservative about water - turning the faucet off while I brush my teeth, filling a shallow sink of water to wash a few dishes rather than having it running, and I put "tank banks" in all of our toilets a couple of years ago - so it was really satisfying to see how small my water footprint is!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing and Renewal Learn About Constructive Communication
How can you, your loved ones, the community, and environment all benefit from constructive communication?

    Nicole Campbell's avatar
    Nicole Campbell 10/22/2021 2:31 PM
I particularly like the use of "I" statements to indicate your own feelings rather than suggestion that "you" "made" me feel any sort of way. Communicating in this way helps everyone involved take ownership of their own involvement in any interaction.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

    Nicole Campbell's avatar
    Nicole Campbell 10/22/2021 2:29 PM
I like the fuel cost savings as well!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Buy From a Farmers Market
What is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?

    Nicole Campbell's avatar
    Nicole Campbell 10/22/2021 2:28 PM
I have chosen to reduce the amount of meat that my family eats. We treat it more like a condiment now rather than a main dish. And when I do buy it I choose more ethical and responsible options. It's more expensive, but it is an investment I'm ready to make.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing and Renewal Research Restorative Justice
How can Restorative Justice help foster the well-being of both people and planet?

    Nicole Campbell's avatar
    Nicole Campbell 10/22/2021 2:27 PM
Restorative justice helps regain balance when the scales have shifted. We need more of this in all aspects of human and environmental life because they play off each other.
