Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Faith Avery 10/27/2021 1:28 PMSpending more time outdoors makes me more cognisant of time. Nature does not appear instantly, but it is very easy to destroy it -- especially with human force. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat did you learn about racial injustice in the documentary(ies) you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of sustainability?
Faith Avery 10/27/2021 1:27 PMI really enjoyed learning about how racial and gender equity intersect. It is important to remember that gender/race/class/etc are inherently intertwined with sustainability. -
Faith Avery 10/26/2021 1:40 PMI was very excited about this challenge because being eco-conscious is one of my personal core values. I chose the actions I did because it was exciting to see so many things that I already understand and do listed as action items. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterHow does your view on water consumption change after completing this action?
Faith Avery 10/26/2021 1:39 PMI was surprised at how much water I use as a single person living in a small space! I generally think of myself as a conscientious and efficient water-user, so I was surprised that my consumption was so high. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationReducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?
Faith Avery 10/26/2021 1:38 PMI already drive a tiny, fuel efficient, car. I am nervous about the effects of electric car batteries on the environment, but I think that this may be less of a concern than exhaust emissions. I am motivated by the thought of saving money on fuel over time. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationIt takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. How have you used technology to replace in-person meetings or work this year?
Faith Avery 10/26/2021 1:36 PMI have used WebEx, Google Meets, Teams, and Zoom to hold virtual meetings and conduct classes with community partners that would usually have been held in person. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Faith Avery 10/26/2021 1:35 PMI could stop eating so much cheese. I am already pescatarian and rarely even eat fish, but I love cheese. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHow can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?
Faith Avery 10/26/2021 1:34 PMCreating meeting agendas can ensure consistency and quality of meetings. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Faith Avery 10/26/2021 1:33 PMMeat is expensive, a luxury, and taken for granted in wealthier countries. Eating meat creates greenhouse gasses and depletes natural resources. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and RenewalWhat's your favorite activity(ies) in which you experience joy while being active and moving?
Faith Avery 10/26/2021 1:32 PMI have been enjoying going for walks in my neighborhood and looking at leaves and Halloween decorations.
